Hi this is normally done by removing the cap to gain access to the large nut under it, then using a soft hammer or mallet ( or even a piece of hard wood) hit the stem that the nut was on and the washer under it will pop off, you will have to get a friend to pull at the same time you hit, but be careful as my friend lost a tooth as he pulled it to hard and came off and hit him in the face so please take care doing this…hope this helps

Helm – A tiller or wheel and any associated equipment for steering a ship or boat.
Most boaters will refer to it simply as the helm. This refers to the wheel, tiller, toggle, or any other part of the console that lets you steer the boat. Many people will visualize a boat`s steering wheel as the classic shape and design you might see on pirate boats from children`s books and toys.
Detached steering wheels are rare in the industry, but not unprecedented. In February, Nissan recalled about 1,000 Ariya electric vehicles for a similar problem.
The steering wheel is mounted on a splined interference fit. Which means it requires a puller to overcome this interference fit to remove the steering wheel. The steering wheel also needs to be pressed back onto this interference fit.
A ship wheel is commonly referred to as the ship`s wheel, boat`s wheel, or the helm. The helm or steering wheel is always located on the starboard side towards the stern.
The helm is responsible for converting the rotating motion of the steering wheel into a push-pull action on the cable. This cable directs the rudder to move left or right to steer the boat in the skipper`s desired direction. Most helms are rotary and use gears to move the rudder.
Cars steer from the front by turning the wheels, but boats steer from the rear by turning the outboard motor. The steering wheel turns in the same direction, but, in a car, the front end goes in the direction the wheels are turned. In a boat, the rear end or stern moves in the opposite direction.
1) First, insert your key into the ignition switch and turn it without too much force. If the key turns, then the steering wheel will be unlocked. Should you have difficulty turning the ignition switch to the ACC position, turn the key while turning the steering wheel right and left to release the tension.
If your steering wheel locks up while the car is in motion, perhaps the most likely culprit is a lack of power steering fluid, or dirty power steering fluid. Especially at lower speeds like parking lot maneuvers, the power steering system allows you to turn the wheels with ease.

I own a 1998, 25hp Mercury short shaft tiller outboard engine. It is on a 15′-10″ Mirrow Craft semi V aluminum flat bottom boat. When I am running it, the steering handle pulls to the left making the boat turn right. I have to concentrate on keeping the handle steady when the motor is at full throttle. If I would let up the tension with my arm the motor pulls the boat to the right. I need to balance the motor so it runs without steering tension. How do I adjust it?
ANSWER : You have a tiller tab on the foot of your outboard, It has a mark on it, and should be cocked to one side, take note of the mark, and turn it one way or another, just keep notes on what you do, then try it. See what happens, you should be able to compensate for the over steer by moving this tab. Hope this helps.

2005 Mercury 50hp 2-stroke outboard motor very sluggish when accelerating, stalled twice when trying to exceed 50% throttle capacity. Last time I used my boat was about two months ago, so I don’t think bad fuel is the problem. I let my boat idle at the boat launch for probably 5 mins before taking off. I didn’t notice any weird sounds or any indication that my motor was running any different than normal. After only a couple of minutes of running my boat up river I gave more throttle(probably 75% power) when it started to bog down. I immediatly kicked it out of gear and checked to see if something was caught around my prop but there was nothing there. From then on everytime I put the motor in gear and gave it throttle it would barely respond and stalled twice. Any suggestions to what this might be? Thanks, Newt.
ANSWER : The carberator is gravity fed and there is propbably gunk in it, when you give it more throttle, it needs more gas but can’t get it. Then a build up of gas in the float bowl occurs and nothing works right. It has happened to me and its aggravating, do a complete rebuild on the carb or just replace it and you will be happier quicker.

94 750 begins running half thottle after 30 min
ANSWER : Fuel system has to hold 3 to 7 psi for ten minutes. fix any leaks. Check to make sure that your water temp sender is working right and or that the water system is not clogged.
If it thinkd that it is over heating the rev limiter will drop to a lower rpm. hope that helps

Bell f20 computer – no code for 25” wheels?
ANSWER : When i first got mine it prompted me to enter the circumference of my tire in millimeters (mine was 2074mm). you can get back to this by holding the bottom button in the center (this button is really two buttons one on the left side the other on the right side; holding the center pushes both these buttons). when it rests you’ll see the 4 digit numbers. i think u use the right button to change the number and the left to move to the next. remember the number represents your tires circumference in millimeters. for a quick approx use this calculation (Tire Diameter)X(3.14)X(25.4). So for me it was (26in)X(3.14)X(25.4) = 2074mm

Will not go into four wheel drive when you engage the switch
ANSWER : I would suspect a faulty switch, or vacuum line. On some vehicles, this can be caused by a bad electrical ground, or broken wire leading to the transfer case. there are some tricks too to unlock it before you start replacing parts, put it on drive then hit the brakes then take the reverse and see if it unlocks. if doesnt work then have the switch, vacuum line, electrical grounds be checked.
