A tankless water heater requires 120 amps to run on average.

If your home is older, you`ll likely need a professional electrician to upgrade your system and increase the amount of amperage available in your home.

Instantaneous water heaters must have circuits of no more than 120 amperes and be protected against overloading of no more than 150 amperes, according to the National Electrical Code.
In short, most commonly sized water heaters use 18.8 amps when running at 100% output. Most hot water heaters will draw a maximum of 18.8 amps when operating at 100% heating output (these are 4500W 240V heaters).
The average water heater runs at around 1125 watts, though some more powerful water heaters can use up to 4000 watts. Check out the specs on the back of your water heater to get the most accurate wattage number. You can also calculate kilowatts by multiplying amps and volts and dividing by 1000.
Consequently, it is often required that a home have a 200 AMP, 208 to 240 volt electrical service to run an electric tankless water heater (smaller whole-house models suitable for warmer climate areas can often be installed on 100, 125, or 150 AMP electrical services).
The standard amperage of an electric water heater is 18.75 amps at 240 volts. The average electric heater comes with a wattage rating of 4500 watts, although this figure may differ from one model to another.
When they are `on`, electrical tankless heaters require up to 30,000W of electricity. For comparison, an average washing machine will require a bit more than 1,000W to run (and it will run for 1-2h). However, electric tankless water heaters are not running all the time.
A 200-amp service allows operation of multiple appliances at once, while a 60-amp service won`t provide enough power to run an electric hot water heater, air conditioner and hair dryer simultaneously. The EcoSmart Eco-18 model requires two 40-amp breakers for installation and has a 75-amp draw.
Electric water heaters require a 240-volt dedicated circuit, which serves only the water heater and no other appliances or devices. The circuit wiring typically includes a 30-amp double-pole breaker and 10-2 non-metallic (NM) or MC cable.
Most water heaters use the standard 4500 watt heater (240V circuit).
The label on the water heater indicates what voltage the water heater requires. Most residential units are 220/240 volts (but some are 110/120 volts). Verify your water heater is getting the correct voltage. If it is not getting the required voltage, there are probably issues with your home`s electrical system.
The consumption of electric water heaters varies between 400 and 3000 kWh/year. You can usually find the consumption value on the heater`s energy efficiency label.
Tankless water heaters are available in both electric and gas-fired versions. The owner of a vacation home that`s not used very often questions whether an electric model would be a good choice.
240-volt circuits run to a single outlet, typically carry 30 or 50 amps of power, and are protected by a double-pole breaker at the panel. Older 110/120-volt outlets simply had two slots of the same size parallel to one another like this: | |.
120 Volt heaters require 1-Pole circuit breakers; 240 Volt heaters need 2-Pole breakers.
Watts รท Volts = Amps

As an example, if your water heater has a wattage rating of 4500 and a voltage rating of 240, it will require 18.75 Amps.

A 200-amp service allows operation of multiple appliances at once, while a 60-amp service won`t provide enough power to run an electric hot water heater, air conditioner and hair dryer simultaneously.
The main difference is the downsized elements. The 15 amp model uses 2,500-watt elements instead of the standard 4,500-watt elements in standard electric water heaters. The first-hour rating of the 15 amp model is 54 gallons per hour. On the other hand, the 30 amp model`s first-hour rating is 67 gallons per hour.

Do electric tankless water heaters use 110 or 220 volts? Tankless water heaters can use either 110 or 220 volts, depending on the model. All electric tankless water heaters operate on a 240-volt circuit to reduce amp usage.

I have purchased three 750-watt power inverters in the last three weeks. They have all failed to work on the second or third use. The first two were the same brand. I replaced an old one that ran for several years. I am using it to run a 4.7 amp 120-volt vacuum cleaner motor that pumps up my air dock. I have it connected directly with marine cable to one of the boat batteries. The battery outputs about 12.8 volts DC. The fuses don?t blow, just No Output. I am using a three-wire 120-volt extension cord and am, wired neutral, hot and ground to the AC motor vial an on/off switch. The motor works fine when I run house power with an extension cord from the dock next to me. Could I be, just unlucky with new inverters and need to buy a forth one?
ANSWER : The problem may be that the inverter is undersized for the load. Is the 4.7 Amp rating the motor peak draw or the nominal one. What I mean is that it takes many times more power to start start the motor than when the motor is running. Typically it is 3 to 7 times more amps to start the motor than when it is running. It could be that starting the vacumm cleaner is stressing the inverter and it is causing it to fail prematurely. If you can find out the locked rotor current draw of the motor, the that would be the mininum size of the inverter.

Also, the type of inverter will make a difference on how the motor operates. A modified sine wave will make the motor run hotter than a pure sine wave inverter. Hope this helps.

I need to hook up 3/4 cpvc water supply line to water meter
ANSWER : I went to Home Depot for the same reason.Ended up getting a brass fitting with a cpvc insert that excepted the cpvc pipe to be glued into brass fitting once it was screwed in place.Came out about a foot then used a coupler to join both cpvc pipes so in the future I can replace meter without cutting pipe.Im not a plummer just a home owner who cant afford one so I dont know if I did it right but it works.

I have Detroit 60 series installed on a launch. Recently the Starboard unit suffers a catastrophic failure and piston No2 came out of the block, making a big hole. This engines are using heat exchangers, and sea water cooled Charge Air Coolers and sea water self priming raw water pump. We contact the local dealer an the veredict was a “Massive salt water ingestion” that caused an Hydraulic lock and damaged cyls 6 and 2. They say that the water came from the deck covers, but there is no way for that to happen, I think they dont want to honor any warranty, because we suspect that the water came from the Charge Air Cooler. I want to know if the CAC can cause that type of failures and if anyone had a similar problem. The engine cost is about 66K and only had 2300 hours.
ANSWER : I would have to say that a sleeve got pitted or lost an oring or the CAC sprung a leak. I believe you are correct in your assumption that the water did not enter the unit in the manner they are saying. The only real way to tell is a complete tear down and someone is going to have to pay. They are also a high maintenance item and someone is going to say that the preventive maintenance was not done.
