It is brand new, i have lost the manual. it seems as though it has no tension in the pedals even when i select a preset program. does anyone know how to adjust the tension?
Experienced athletes share their insights in answering this question:
This depends on the model you have. There are lots of genesis bikes have manual resistance knobs on the main post, right in front of the seat. If it doesn’t have a knob here, then it might be electronically operated in which case there might be a problem if it isn’t adjusting with the program.

Biking on a stationary bicycle is a great way to burn calories and lose abdominal fat. However, to reap these advantages, you must exercise regularly. To avoid belly fat, you should integrate regular physical activity with a nutritious and very well diet.
Depending on your health goals and the intensity of your workout, 30 minutes on a stationary bike can be enough to improve your fitness and lose weight. Adults should aim for a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise per week to reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases like cardiovascular disease.
It`s both high-intensity and low-impact, so it`s suitable both as a HIT workout and for more moderate sessions. Several studies suggest that cycling for 15 to 20 minutes each day can be beneficial for heart health.
In order to lose weight, the American Council on Exercise (ACE) says you`ll need to cycle at a moderately intense level for at least 30 minutes at a time. To burn even more calories, you`ll want to cycle for longer. ACE also suggests incorporating two activities into one cross-training session to boost weight loss.
In order to lose 1 pound of body weight, you need to burn 3,500 calories more than you consume. Meaning a 125-pound person would need to cycle between 47 – 72 minutes a day to burn 1 pound of fat. Studies suggest a 155-pound person will burn 252 calories in 30 minutes of moderate-intensity stationary cycling.
A 30-minute vigorous stationary bike workout burns approximately 315 calories for a 125-pound person, 378 calories for a 155-pound person, and 441 calories for a 185-pound person. If you weigh more than that, you`ll burn even more calories.
Moderate cycling on the stationary bike can burn anywhere from 500 to 700 calories per hour depending on your weight. On the other hand, walkers will only burn about 300 to 500 calories per hour depending on their weight and speed of walking. This gives a clear edge to using an exercise bike for burning calories.
Minutes Required to Burn 500 Calories

If you are looking at using a bicycle as your main form of exercise, a good way to start is by riding for 45 minutes at moderate intensity. This will burn approximately 500 calories per cycling session, setting you on track to meet average weekly exercise goals.

A study concluded that treadmills are optimal indoor exercise machines for enhancing energy expenditure. Since a treadmill workout is a weight-bearing exercise, you will burn more calories and belly fat per minute on a treadmill than on a regular stationary bike.
Aim to maintain a cadence (measured on the cycle console in revolutions per minute or RPMs) of 80 to 100 RPMs on “flat ground” (low to moderate resistance) and 60 to 80 RPMs on “hills” (moderate to high resistance).
According to research, you can burn around 688 calories in an hour if you ride a bicycle at a moderate speed of 19 km/h. So it will take around 77,000 calories from the body to lose 10kg of weight which means you have to cycle approx 110 hours to achieve your desired weight-loss goal i.e., 10kg.
How many `steps` do you get riding an e-bike? It would take about 1 hour 14 minutes of riding an e-bike to get 10,000 steps.

At a moderate rate of exertion, 30 minutes of cycling at a rate conducive to maintaining health equates to covering about 15 km at an average speed of about 30 km/h.
According to Harvard, riding a stationary bike at a moderate pace will burn between 210 and 294 calories every 30 minutes, depending on a rider`s weight. If we take this at face value (without considering the individual), then riding for 1 hour a day would take around 8 days to lose 1 pound.
People who lose weight or plan to lose weight wonder how many calories they need to burn to lose 1 kg. According to studies, for every 1 kg of weight loss, 7700 calories are needed, or 1000 calories are lost 0.13 kg.
Riding a stationary exercise bike is an efficient and effective way to burn calories and body fat while strengthening your heart, lungs, and muscles. Compared to some other types of cardio equipment, a stationary bicycle puts less stress on your joints, but it still provides an excellent aerobic workout.
If you are using an upright stationary bike at the gym or your house, then it`s not recommended that you use the same exercise bike every day because they can put too much stress on your joints and cause injury over time.
Cycling at a fast pace is better than cycling slow if you want to improve your aerobic system. The faster you cycle, the more energy you`ll burn and the longer you`ll be able to ride without tiring out.
Cycling makes knee joint bend and stretch gently and helps to ease the movement of the joint. Cycling also improves the muscle strength around the knee joint, which ultimately protects the knee joint if there are any impact actions. So it`s wise to say that cycling promotes knee joint health in many ways.
According to Healthline, running burns the most calories. A tried and true exercise that requires little more than your legs and the open road, running burns just over 800 calories for a 155-pound adult per hour.
If you`re cycling at a rate of 10-12mph, you can burn roughly 7 calories per minute depending on how much you weigh. If you bump up the intensity to 14-16mph, you can burn up 15 calories per minute. Based on these numbers, you`d have to maintain a pace of 14 mph for about 65-70 minutes to burn 1,000 calories.
While training on an exercise bike, you will primarily work your lower body muscles: your calves, thighs and glutes. Your abs will also get some work, and to a lesser extent, your arms. The exercise bike is also perfect for cardio work, strengthening your cardiovascular system.
Both treadmills and exercise bikes are good for your heart. Fitness goals. Running usually burns more calories than cycling, but there are ways to tweak resistance and position so that you`re blasting calories and fat on a bike too. If you`re looking to build muscle, a stationary bike might be better.
