To measure with a tape measure you need to remove a section from your pole, lay a tape measure or ruler on a table and put the section, end down, on to the tape measure. Now read the diameter. Trying to measure the diameter by holding the tape up to the pole is nearly impossible to do accurately.
Some brands produce their own pole kits to suit their tents. But for the most part, there are all interchangeable with the only variants being the material and the adjustable lengths.
Causes range from strong winds to poles weakened by age to cheap materials—and sometimes, it`s just plain old wear and tear.
The easiest and quickest way to fix a broken pole is with a pole repair sleeve. Also called a splint, this short tube is often provided with your tent. If not, buy one and pack it with you. A good pole repair sleeve is just slightly larger in diameter than your pole so that it doesn`t move around too much.
2. Fix a broken tent pole. Generally, tent poles are pretty robust, but should you arrive at the campsite to find that one of yours is damaged, find a suitable stick and use your duct tape to attach it to the damaged pole for extra reinforcement.
Pole Pegs / Pole Stakes – A peg or stake is a small rod or spike made of wood, metal, plastic, or composite material. The top of the stake has a hook/hole where the guy ropes can be attached. The lower part is a sharp point that is drilled into the ground.

One of the simplest ways to repurpose a tent pole is to use it as a gardening tool. Either give growing plants a handy support for growing or as a trellis for vining plants to scale.
Freestanding tents function just as their name implies: The tent bodies can hold their shape on their own without needing to be staked out. These designs receive their support from included tent poles and can be picked up and moved around camp without going limp.
Well, rest assured, it is no big issue – it is only there to make pitching easier by ensuring the sections stay together while you thread them through the sleeves and place under tension. The lack of an elastic cord in no way affects the tent integrity.
The most popular tent pole materials are fibreglass and aluminium. Both provide excellent performance, but there are trade-offs for each.
Poles. Glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) – also known as fibreglass –is a popular material for tent poles because it is relatively cheap to produce, lightweight and bends easily around the curves of a tent.

45mm diameter poles – The industry standard diameter, used in studios, gyms and competitions across the world.
Poles come in three diameters – 50mm, 45mm and 40mm. If in doubt, go for 45mm as this is the new industry standard and the size found in most studios and at pole dancing competitions. If you have a small grip then you may find a 40mm pole more comfortable when gripping the pole.

Tent poles are a critical component of your setup. Poles provide a tent with its basic structure and come in a variety of materials from aluminum and fiber glass, to steel and air-filled beams.

There are many different materials for tent poles on the market, among which steel pipe elastic steel, glass fiber, and aluminum alloy are the main materials for tent poles, but tent poles made of these materials have different characteristics.
Aluminum is much stronger compared to other materials such as fiberglass. This material combines malleability and strength to make it useful and versatile.

Besides the weight, there`s one more point for the aluminium pole. Whenever a fiberglass pole breaks, you barely can fix it. So you would have to take some replacement with you.
Aluminium poles have a great strength to weight ratio, are durable, and not easily broken. They`re most often used in mid to high end lightweight camping tents but are more expensive so not often used in larger family dome tents.
Aluminum tent poles are great options for supporting your tent`s structure. They`re strong, durable, corrosion resistant, and not overly expensive. They will out perform fiberglass in all categories besides price.

Square tent with 2 types gazebo poles, varenda, 2 side windows
ANSWER : The 2 longest of the poles go in an x over the center of the tent and the 2 shorter ones go arch to the sides. http://www.wenzelco.com/details.aspx?NavID=412shows a picture very similar to your tent. If you go to image 2 it shows it with out the fly. now if you got 2 sets of 4 poles, 2 long and 2 short, and one set is all aluminum, then I would go with the aluminum set. It is less likely to collapse in high winds.

I need new poles for Swiss Gear tent # SG33071F
ANSWER : Go to Home depot and buy a tube that fit the pole. Cut it into 5 or 6 inches for the broken areas. It costs me less than 2 dollars. Let me know how it turn out on yours.

How to stabalize four tent poles in an open area.
ANSWER : If you get four sturdy poles (not normal tent poles) then the best thing to do is to stake the four poles into the ground at a 60 degree angle with the top away from the tent and then use the tension created by the angle to support the tarp.

I have stripped the thread in an extendable tent pole.
ANSWER : If you go to any good tool store or engineering store you can get what is known as helecoil insert.just tell them the inside diam of the pole.they will probably put it in for you if yuo take the pole along.hope this will help.regards barry.

My basketball hoop broke and I have a pole cemented in the ground. Can you buy just the hoop/backboard itself and attach to the pole or do I have to cut the pole and start over?
ANSWER : Sorry I know nothing about basketball but it seems a crying shame to cut down the pole even if you can’t find a replacement hoop and board.
I have faced many similar things and I find remembering the wise old saying “in order to get the right answer it is important to first ask the right question”…
I suggest you ask around those who should know such things – the coach at the local schools, local teams. If you don’t get satisfaction then why not ask your local repair shop or fabricator if they can make what you need at a reasonable cost.
