Beware – if you feel like it is going too slow and you give it a little gas, the AWD will disengage!However, if you have a Heel Clicker kit in your clutch, you CAN give it a little bit of gas and get on down the hill without unlocking it.When you get to the bottom, just go a little faster and they will unlock.Note that when the front wheels are locked, it will be hard to steer; so go slow and be careful!In some cases, the 4wd may unlock even at idle. If the rear starts sliding, just stop, put it in reverse and repeat the procedure.It works great !

The braking force varies depending on the engine, and the gear the transmission is in. The lower the gear, the higher the braking effect due to higher rpm and the torque transferred through the transmission (higher torque is delivered from the engine in lower gears).
When activated, the engine brake alters the operation of the engine`s exhaust valves so that the engine works as a power-absorbing air compressor. This provides a retarding, or slowing, action to the vehicle`s drive wheels, enabling you to have improved vehicle control without using the service brakes*.
In some areas, engine braking is prohibited due to the intense loud noise it creates. The “no engine braking” signs are placed on intersections that pass through or near residential areas. The loud noise can be very disruptive to communities, especially at night and in early morning hours.
Fault in braking system:

This may be caused by a leak or lack of fluid or faulty master cylinder or servo, which will render your brakes not fully functional. Do not drive the vehicle, as it could be dangerous.

Engine braking isn`t necessarily bad for your engine or transmission, but it can be if you do it incorrectly. You have to balance the benefits of engine braking against some other factors: Shifting frequently increases clutch wear on a manual transmission, and can lead to high temperatures* in an automatic transmission.
The control center for your car`s brake system is the master cylinder. At the most basic level, the master cylinder converts mechanical energy into hydraulic pressure that applies the brakes at all four wheels.
UNMUFFLED ENGINE COMPRESSION BRAKE. A motor vehicle brake which is activated or worked by the compression of the engine of a motor vehicle, and which is not effectively muffled to prevent excessive noise.
When you step on the brake pedal, energy is amplified by the brake booster, which in turn moves a piston inside the master cylinder, which in turn forces brake fluid out of the master cylinder and into the brake lines that go to each wheel. The fluid then activates the brakes on your wheels.
Explanation Drum brakes are attached to the wheels and located on the axles of a vehicle. The braking mechanisms that cause the vehicle to stop can be found inside of a drum brake.
Q: Is Engine Braking the Same As Downshifting? A: No. In a manual transmission, engine braking occurs simply by leaving the car in gear and letting your foot off the accelerator. Downshifting is the act of shifting into a lower gear.
Engine braking ie using the engine to slow down the vehicle does not cause wear of clutch plates. Clutch plates wear out only when slipping. This is caused by clutch riding ie not releasing the clutch pedal fully during gear changes or thereafter. The friction plates of the clutch wear out by slipping.
If the brake lines become damaged, a car may start to leak brake fluid. The brake caliper is designed to house all of the different mechanical components of a braking system. Inside the brake caliper, you will find the brake piston, brake pads, and brake rotors.
When a semi uses engine brakes you will often hear a loud blat-blat-blat, sometimes referred to as a Jake Bark because the compressed air is forced through the exhaust valve in the engine`s cylinder.
Testing the brake controller is fairly easy. Sever the blue brake output wire near the brake controller leaving enough room to reconnect it and then apply the manual slide. Using a circuit tester like the Quickee Tester, part # 3808, you should get output to the controller side of the wire you severed.
Engine braking doesn`t flash the brake lights. It means the drivers behind might not notice that your vehicle is slowing down. Rapid release of the clutch might lead to its excessive wear. It also puts strain on the transmission.
It`s actually more economical to drive in a higher gear. You`ll save money and fuel by changing up to higher gears as quickly as possible, while revs are still fairly low, around 2,500 for petrol vehicles and 2,000 for diesel. Be aware, though, you can also reduce fuel economy if you drive too slowly in a high gear.
Braking and accelerating

To use the engine as efficiently as possible, try to use the highest gear possible without making the engine struggle. Engine braking will help to reduce fuel use too. This is when you use the resistance of the engine to help slow the motorbike.

There are dominantly two types of engine brakes viz. bleeder brake and compression release brake.
Engine braking is mostly regulated in residential areas that are close to interstates. The penalties for using a Jake Brake in a prohibited area depends on the city, but penalties can result in a fine of up to $500 or up to three months in jail.
Disc Brakes: A caliper with hydraulic fluid squeezes to friction pads against the disc to slow the wheel. Drum Brakes: A piston with hydraulic fluid forces friction shoe pads outward against the drum walls. Air Brakes: Can be drum, disc or a combination, with air pressure providing the power instead of hydraulic fluid.
Turning off auto braking is almost always an option. Some drivers still want to be in full control of their vehicles. Others claim AEB systems brake unnecessarily. Luckily for these folks, most automakers allow you to switch your auto braking off and back on.
Hydraulic- Hydraulic brakes are the most common brake circuit in modern cars that utilize hydraulic (fluid) pressure to stop wheels in motion. The system uses two fluid-filled pistons and springs, one above the other.
In addition, studies have shown that engine braking does chew up more gas than regular braking. While the amount of extra gas may not be a overly significant, the long term savings can be substantial. Unless you`re on a hill where constant braking would be impractical, you should probably avoid downshifting.

I have a 2004 60 hp yamaha 2 stroke outboard engine that doesn’t start or run well. Once warm and in the water it will idle in nuetral and also in gear. It accelerates in neutral but will die or lack power if I increase throttle while in gear. Engine will somtimes get to top speed but often while running at top speed engine will start to slow rapidly. Engine has full range of operationout when out of the water where there is no load on engine but is still difficult to cold start. Before these recent problems the engine sat up for several months and I had to change the impeller and spark plugs. Spark plugs fire, cylinders have proper pressure of 100, 100, and 110. I cleaned some fuel lines and filters and got new gas.
ANSWER : Every sympton you are describing here can be attributed to fuel starvation due to blocked jets and or water in carbs, when your engine dies does it die with dry plugs, or wet oily ones?

LX 188. Engine suddenly dies. The fluel in the bowel of the fuel filter is empty. If I crank the engine the filter becomes dry and is collapsing some but the engine does not start. When I remove the supply line from the fuel pump to the carberator and crank the enginge there is a strong stream of gas being pumped out. I tap on the carberator ??? is the float is hung not allowing fuel to enter. Cranking the engine with the line off refills the bowel of the gas filter. Reattache line to the carberator===engine starts. Ran perfect for 20minutes then suddenly died. Repeated all the above and engine again started. What to do to fix this? Thanks
ANSWER : Debrie inside the needle and seat area which has to be cleaned out with carburetor cleaner and compressed air

2007 Yamaha Grizzly 660. As soon as i turn the key on the engine temp light is on. Is this a tell tail for something wrong? if so what is wrong. Light comes on before i even start it. Also a couple of the lights for the shifter (to tell you what gear you are in) are not working. i believe F,N,R.

OK above is your service manual, so you can see whats what. have a look through the manual about the temp light for a start.

Now, with that light, now, you say it is ON even B4 you start? well OK, BUT, does it go out after starting? If YES then it is nothing to worry about, it is simply the way it starts.

Now IF it doesn’t go out, then two things maybe wrong, One, the “Sender” unit maybe falsely indicating. Replacement is only fix. Two, the sensor is fine, but the “Electronics” are “Faulty” and “Seeing” something that isn’t. again replacement is only fix.

Now you also indicate that there are “Other” lights that aren’t working?, now I wonder IF they are all linked? perhaps you have damage to an area of the wiring, and they are damaged? with one wire(s) sort of cut, disconnected, and the other say shorting to earth and making the temp light, light? Anyway something to think about and maybe investigate?

Usually they abrade where they go through the frame, or perhaps there was damage during manufacture etc?

My engine revs on high by itself and runs rough
ANSWER : We had the same problem with our snowblower. we tried everything. ponits, adjustments. even converted points to electronics. we ened up putting on a brand new carborater and it runs great now. save youself the headaches and buy a new carborator. we spent $87. so much better

ANSWER : Pull spark plugs and see if it will pull over if not fuel may have filled the crank case drain & refill to proper level (starter is stuck in lube shaft & movethe gear up & down by hand to free up)

I have a volvo penta md7a marine diesel engine fitted in my sailing boat. Recently, I changed the bottom sea **** which was almost blocked. Apparently the new sea **** is working well as it should. But this week with no apparent reason and without use of engine, I noticed that the cooling system water cup (the recipient which connects with the sea **** hose and the water pump hose) is empty and it Im not able to keep it full like it was before.The water vanishes every time I tried to fill it up in order to keep the water running throught the system. However the waterpump seems to be working. But almost no water is coming out of the exhaustor, of course, just a few drops once in a while. What might be going on ?? Thanks.
ANSWER : I don’t have a picture of the installation, but I can imagine a water filter above the water line with an improperly fitted cover and an air leak that lets the seawater drain out – losing the prime. Old Swampy in New Hampshire
