I purchased a preowned Driver from TM preowned and it is in Great shape with the exception of some ball scars on the face, which do not effect playability, but I am the poster child for OCD and want to know if there is a repair solution? Thanks in advance for your time.
Experienced athletes share their insights in answering this question:
Clubs are re-finished all the time. Costs vary based on details of the club and extent of damage. Many drivers have their surface refinished by simply using a fine grit sandpaper/cloth. I have done it to my son’s club purchased used – worked great. I even repainted the groves with acrylic paint; once fully dried, re-sanded with a super fine to remove the over-paint. Looks like brand new.

You`ll want to try buffing it out with a rubbing compound. If that doesn`t work, you`ll move on to trying touch-up paint, lightly sanding it with a low-grit sandpaper, applying metal polish and cloth-buffing. (Note that some companies now make golf club touch-up paint specifically for this purpose.)
Why is my clubface wide open at impact? Chances are you opened the clubface on your takeaway and you never rotated it back to square again during the swing. In addition, you likely have too much extension or cupping in your wrist angle and this causes the clubface to be too far open.
Dip the driver into the water to completely submerge the club, then remove it. Use the toothbrush or a bigger brush to clean the driver`s head, remembering to give special attention to the grooves. Use the rag to clean off the excess dirt, and then place it back in the water for 10-15 seconds.
Contacting the manufacturer is your first port of call to repair a dented clubface. If the driver is from a major brand, you may have a local rep you can reach out to. Alternatively, you can talk to the person you purchased the driver from. The manufacturers are the only ones who can repair the head.
Toothpaste has been used for years to clean silver, and it turns out they work well for golf clubs too. Toothpaste can be used to remove minor paint scratches.
Remove Scuffs and Pen Marks

Simply dab a bit of acetone onto a cotton pad and clean the golf ball. For scuffs, you have a few options. You can try using a Magic Eraser to scrub the ball gently. Alternatively, try using soap and water and lightly scrubbing with a toothbrush.

If you`re having trouble squaring the club face at impact, simply try keep it looking at the ball all the way to the top. This is guaranteed to help those of who leave the face open. Above: A clubface that is “square” while starting back. Above: A clubface that is “open” while starting back.
The face angle on a driver is basically defined as the clubface angle when the driver is soled on a hard surface with the shaft held perfectly at a 90 degree angle to the line of flight.
On almost every driver we test, the sweet spot that creates the highest ball speed is slightly towards the toe and slightly up from the center of the face. If you miss your shots high on the face, the ball will launch higher, spin less, and you will lose ball speed.
There is no obligation for a player to mark unless asked, and it`s only been in modern times that players were required to mark even if their ball is dead in the line of another putting player. Not that long ago, the “stymie” was very much a part of match play and golf strategy.
Scratches, particularly on the face and sole of a driver are normal, though, for example a bad sky-mark on the top of a driver`s head does spoil the appearance of the club and will devalue it considerably.
All you need to do is slide the card across the face. Usually, the face of a driver is slightly convex, but when it starts caving in it means it`s about to crack. If the credit card doesn`t show empty space on both ends, your driver`s face has weakened out and you`re losing a ton of distance and accuracy.
So, if you purchased your driver in the past 2 years you`re likely to be covered by this. As part of this guarantee, the manufacturer will either repair or replace the driver head, depending on the severity of the crack.
Even if a dent looks minor when it first happens, leaving it over time could lead to it getting worse. Any cracks in the paintwork could get bigger, and there`s also a risk of rust developing if moisture gets to the metal underneath. These can be much greater problems to sort out in the long run.
Alternative cleaning products that can be used instead of WD40 include mild soap, white vinegar, and baking soda. These products are gentle on the club`s finish and can effectively remove dirt and debris without damaging the club.
Now that your golf club is clean and gleaming, you should take extra steps to ensure it stays this way moving forward. This is where your trusty can of WD-40® Multi-Use Product comes in! Using WD-40® Multi-Use Product, and a clean microfibre cloth, coat the entire length of your club in the product.
Similarly, you can get rid of marks and scuffs on leather furniture and shoes by using Vaseline. It acts as a substitute for leather polish in a pinch. Use a cloth to rub a small amount onto the desired spots. Additionally, it hydrates the leather and boosts shine as it removes scuffs.
Open club face

The most common cause of a slice is an open club face. This open club face will give you contact that isn`t square and often feels like a “side swipe.” The most common cause of an open club face is an incorrect grip as your hand position will directly reflect in the face.

All full swing clubfaces open during the backswing, and once the takeaway starts, there are two ways to open the clubface: (1) body rotation, (2) forearm rotation. When your clubface starts away from the ball, it`s in the process of opening (pointing to the right of target – left if you`re left handed).
Most good drivers look at least 12 to 15 seconds ahead. That means looking ahead the distance you will travel in 12 to 15 seconds. At lower speeds, that`s about one block. At highway speeds it`s about a quarter of a mile.
The way the length of the club sets up, this is relatively common. So many golfers try and swing all the clubs the same way, but the driver should have a slightly more shallow path. With the irons, you are trying to hit down and through the golf ball, and it is a slightly different swing.
When you lower the loft of a golf club, you are also going to close the angle of the clubface. If you increase the loft on a club, you will open the face angle on the club. This applies when you are adjusting loft on the driver as well as irons or hybrids.
The world`s best drivers are in Switzerland and the UAE, while the most polite drivers are found in Turkey, according to a study by global transfer service i`way. The study analysed reviews and ratings from passengers in 120 countries from February 2022 to February 2023.
Your goal is to hit the ball in the high center of the clubface, just above the center-line of the grooves and the ball will go farther. Hitting the ball low on the face and/or off the heel will drastically reduce your distance production.
