How does the camping toilet in an RV work? A camping toilet consists essentially of two tanks. One is a receptacle and the other is for clean water. Both are maintained in a hygienic state through the use of special chemicals that allow the decomposition of waste fluids and limit the presence of bad odors.
Portable toilets holding tanks contain chemicals which work to control hygiene. This chemical additive breaks down waste, kills bacteria and masks any unpleasant toilet odours – so you don`t end up with a stinky portaloo at the end of the day!
The average lifespan of a porta potty is around 10 years, and a lot can happen in that decade. There are many types of portable toilets and they`ve come a long way since the first porta potty models.
Portable toilet flushes either by using water that comes from a hidden water tank inside the toilet or it flushes using the toilet chemicals from the holding tank. This tank will hold all waste and liquids therefore no mains draining or water supply is needed for standard portable toilet units.
Portable toilets work by flushing water from a hidden water tank, that`s fitted inside the toilet, or it uses toilet chemicals from the holding tank. As portable toilets don`t need to be connected to the mains, the toilet will hold all its waste and liquids.
The toilet flush uses fresh water from a water tank inside the toilet. Thanks to the flushing system and the holding tank keeping all the waste, portable toilets don`t need to be connected to a water supply.
Biocides: Biocides are the primary active ingredient in porta potties` blue liquid. These are substances meant to prevent the growth of gram-positive bacteria that release some unpleasant odors. These bacteria are responsible for many foul odors beyond those associated with human waste.
To keep your toilet clean and to stop it from overflowing, one of the best portable toilet rental tips is to empty it at least once a week if no more than ten people use it. This is the longest you should wait before emptying it, as anything longer than this can be risky as waste builds up.
And, since it carries its own fresh water for flushing, you needn`t worry about using it where water is scarce. Depending on the model, a Porta Potti will average between 27-62 fresh-water flushes between emptyings.
The toilet is essential to an RV because you can use it when camping or on a long road trip. Conserving water saves fresh water and trips to empty your black water tank. How much water does an RV toilet use per flush? Your RV toilet uses between 2 to 4 liters (1/2 to 1 gallon) of water per flush.
It is essential to use chemicals in your portable toilet to ensure that the waste is treated correctly and to ultimately minimise any odors. With such a small toilet, usually also in close proximity to its users, you don`t want to have any horrible smells around.
Chemicals must be added to the waste tank before it is used for the first time and thereafter each time the tank is emptied. They may be added via the open waste valve on the top of the tank or via the emptying spout. Once empty, ensure you give the waste tank a good flush out.
The blue dye hides the waste and debris that lies beneath the surface and the fragrance covers lingering odors. Detergents are agents that cause selected fragrances to dissolve in water, which aids the scent in becoming more uniform in nature. There are many scent options for the restroom provider to choose from.
Every time you flush, toilet tanks are supposed to refill with water. The water level should be about a half inch below the overflow tube and take around 10 seconds to refill.
Fill Valve: This controls the flow of fresh water into the tank of your toilet. It is usually mounted on the left side of the toilet tank, with a tailpiece that extends through the bottom of the tank where it attaches to a supply tube that runs to the shut-off valve. It also controls the water level in the toilet tank.
The rubber flapper sits on what is called the tank`s seat. The flapper forms a seal between the tank water and the bowl. When the handle is pressed, the rod is pulled up, which pulls up this flapper, breaking the seal and allowing the tank`s water to pour into the bowl below, creating the flush.

Toilet chemical suppliers generally recommend using `quick dissolve` toilet paper with your unit. If your family uses a significant amount of paper, this might be a good idea, but in most cases, standard toilet paper will be fine and will almost certainly be cheaper.

Mar 12, 2010 – Could it be the check valve? I took it off and the flap appears to be working correctly. This well has been here a long time. Never given me any problems. I do have galvenized couplers on the discharge and intake sides. Old. Could these be leaking even though they show no sign of water? The discharge is able to hold 30 pounds easily overnight. I do not hear any vacuum in the intake when I take it off. Could the pipe to the well have a leak? I know I would have to insert a sleeve bnut I do not want to go through the hassle if I do not have to. I had put on a brand new pump from the hardware store that did the same thing so I think that would elliminate the pump as being the problem.
Mar 12, 2010 – I have a 3/4hp flotec convertible jet pump. It is able to hold 30lbs pressure on the discharge side as the primie easily for 24 hours. It is not able to pull water from the well whcih has been here for years. i disconnected it for the winter and rehooked it up. The galvanized couplers on the discharge and pump side are old but do not appear to be leakeing as I taped them well. The check valve seems to be functioning well as I took it off and the flap works correctly. The well is not pulling watrer. there does not appear to be a vacuum on the check vale when I losen it. could the check valve be bad? I am aware I might have to resleeve the well, but do not want to hassle with this if I do not have to. I want to eliminate everything else first. i put another brand new pump on it to see if it was that. That partiuclar pump which was the same thng did not work either.

When I fill the patable water tank it leaks on the inside of the trailer
ANSWER : If it leaks while filling it is likely any of the several fittings or it may be the 3 port check valve attached to the incomming water line. These are routinely installed backward. The idea is that when hooked to an external water supply the water goes only to the faucet and when using the tank, water can only go from the tank to the faucet. You cannot be hooked to external water and use the tank.

Any cracks in the tank should be obvious.

Use teflon plumbers tape on all screw fittings or will leak for sure. Hose clamps are also a necessity.

Flames shooting up from back of Coleman stove.
ANSWER : Buy a new one. do not attempt to use this one again. There could be a pin hole in the propane lines or just a small crack. If you can hear it then there’s a problem.

However if you really want to fix this one try putting water on the propane lines and then putting on a new tank and opening the valve. DO NOT LIGHT THE STOVE. where there are bubbles there is your leak. When you find it seal it with a Flame retardent sealent or clamp the line. Also I believe Lowe’s sells parts that may work. just find out which line is leaking and replace the whole line.

I highly recommend just buying a new one and destroying the old one. DO NOT just throw it away please. Some one out there will grab it and try and use it. They will find out the hard way and maybe get hurt badly themselves or hurt someone else. Just imagine the guy who grabs it and goes camping with his family. Him and his son start it up. the son is right next to the unit. The guy fires it up and boom the son gets burned. Is it just me or would you feel bad if you knew this guy. I have seen it first hand. trust me it sucks. A buddy of mine did this and his son was in hospital for 3 days. he said he will never do that again.

So for safety sake please just buy the new one. don’t take unnessecary risks if you don’t have too.
