I have a Coleman 425 2-burner white gas stove, which has been a reliable piece of camping equipment for decades. Recently, however, the main burner blows itself out when the gas is turned down for a low flame. It make a popping noise when that happens. What might cause this and what remedies should I try?
Experienced athletes share their insights in answering this question:
There is water in your fuel. Drain the tank and flush it out with denatured alcohol. Refill with fresh fuel.

How to Identify and Resolve Common Issues ?

We offer a diverse range of insights on identifying and resolving common problems in sports. Our sources encompass academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays shared by seasoned athletes. :

The most common (in my experience) cause is the collection of dust and/or bugs in the gas tubes and burners. When the propane bottle is full it has slightly more pressure and can overcome developing issues. As the supply of fuel gets lower, the pressure drops slightly, and the flow of gas decrease.
The problem of an appliance not lighting is usually caused by one of two things. Either the generator is clogged-up with soot, or the fuel & air tube is blocked by dirt or varnish. Lanterns. (go to stoves) Give it 30 or 40 pumps to really pressurize it well.
If your burner lights for a short time but then goes out, you may have a blockage in the gas valve. The gas line is what provides fuel to the burner to keep it lit. A complete blockage often prevents the burner from lighting at all.
If the appliance is not started properly, it can become flooded. This usually means that the generator if not hot enough to handle the amount of fuel passing through it, which results raw gas or kerosene being fed to the burner. This collects on the inside of the burner until it ignites into a large flame.
The burner(s) could be wet from a spillover or from cleaning, this can cause a popping noise. Allow the burner(s) to completely dry and replace the burner cap. You can speed up the process by blowing cool air on the area using a hair dryer.
Reasons your log burner keeps going out include:

Having a dirty stove or chimney. Suffering a poorly drafted chimney. Not controlling the air supply properly. Your stove being too cold.

Close air vents

Once the flames have been dampened down, close your stove`s air vents to control the levels of oxygen getting to the fire: by doing this, the fuel will burn for longer. Once the embers are glowing orange, you can leave your wood burning stove for the night.

One of the most common causes for weak or uneven flames on your gas cooktop is because the burner head has grown dirty. It is something that can easily happen over time. The burner head is surrounded by small slots that allow the gas to be let out and ignited to produce flames.
If the flame at the stove burner or lantern burner tube is starving for air, it will burn yellow. Almost always this is due to a blocked mixing chamber or burner tube.
Resonate pulsing is typically due to low fuel flow to the generator, which is commonly due to low tank pressure.
What`s the problem now? ANSWER: Burning any fossil fuel indoors is potentially dangerous. Coleman lanterns burn fossil fuel and if used indoors create the potential for a fatal buildup of carbon monoxide.
Food Debris Causing Igniters to Click When Off

If your cooking gets a bit messy sometimes, food debris can get lodged around the ignition system. This grime will throw the system off, causing the igniter clicking when it`s off. This is a pretty simple fix. All you have to do is clean out the gunk.

Flames shooting up from back of Coleman stove.
ANSWER : Buy a new one. do not attempt to use this one again. There could be a pin hole in the propane lines or just a small crack. If you can hear it then there’s a problem.

However if you really want to fix this one try putting water on the propane lines and then putting on a new tank and opening the valve. DO NOT LIGHT THE STOVE. where there are bubbles there is your leak. When you find it seal it with a Flame retardent sealent or clamp the line. Also I believe Lowe’s sells parts that may work. just find out which line is leaking and replace the whole line.

I highly recommend just buying a new one and destroying the old one. DO NOT just throw it away please. Some one out there will grab it and try and use it. They will find out the hard way and maybe get hurt badly themselves or hurt someone else. Just imagine the guy who grabs it and goes camping with his family. Him and his son start it up. the son is right next to the unit. The guy fires it up and boom the son gets burned. Is it just me or would you feel bad if you knew this guy. I have seen it first hand. trust me it sucks. A buddy of mine did this and his son was in hospital for 3 days. he said he will never do that again.

So for safety sake please just buy the new one. don’t take unnessecary risks if you don’t have too.

I HAVE A YORK STELLAR PLUS,MODEL PEUDD12N09501C 15 YEARS OLD. THE AIR INDUCTION MOTOR RUNS FOREVER. THE AIR INDUCTION MOTOR COMES ON , THE THE THERMOSTAT CALLS FOR GAS, THE IGNITOR LIGHTS THE GAS, FURNACE HEATS UP AND THEN THE LIMITER SHUTS OFF THE GAS BEFORE THE BLOWER COMES ON AND THEN THE AIR INDUCTION MOTOR RUNS, AND RUNS TILL THE DUCT WORK IS VIBRATING. THEN OTHER TIME THE FURNACE WORKS RIGHT THROUGH THE HEAT CYCLE JUST LIKE IT WAS DESIGNED TO.
ANSWER : This flame is not likely going off on a high limit due to clogged filters as suggested previously because the unit goes off on safety before the blower comes on. If it works sometimes and not others it is most likely a flame sense issue or an electronic problem. If the boards logic tells the inducer to keep running if it thinks the flame is lost this may be your clue. You can attempt to find the red LED trouble light on the circuit board(or in burner compartment) and this may tell you exactly what the problem is but you may need to tape the door interlock switch so you don’t loose the code when you open the blower compartment. You can clean flame sensor with very fine sandpaper or steel wool but replacement is usually the best.

I have cleaned the burners per the manual. This started as a low flame problem. I have disconnected and reconnected the gas tank. The side burner is lighting but the main burners are not. I do not hear any gas escaping when the burners are turned on.
ANSWER : Sounds as if the gas regulator isn’t allowing the gas to flow through or it has debris in the regulator. Since you said that the problem started as a low flame issue I would suggest the replacement of the regulator or valve where it hooks up to the tank.Hope this helped Dave
