How Do The Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells Work? Changing the weight is as simple as turning a dial. As you can see, each adjustable dumbbell sits in a storage tray which holds the weighted plates and dumbbell. All you have to do is turn the dials on each end of the dumbbells to change the weight.
The Bowflex SelectTech 552 dumbbell trays are plastic, which can crack if you drop the weights into them with too much force, and the weights themselves can be scuffed and scratched.
Barbell collars hold your weightlifting plates on your bar to ensure that they don`t slip or fall off while you are working out – protecting both you, and your equipment. There are many types of barbell collar, each with their advantages and disadvantages, which we`ll take a look at in this article.
How Do Adjustable Dumbbells Work? Adjustable dumbbells have a retaining mechanism. The weights are removable on the end, unlike on a fixed set where weights are attached to the handle. Since they are adjustable, you can set them for a wide range of weights between 5 and 50 pounds.
A versatile option for home gyms, the Bowflex SelectTech 552 adjustable dumbbells can add some variety to your strength-training workouts. By simply turning a dial at the end of the dumbbell, you can change the weight to suit your exercise and fitness level.
The real answer lies in one of two reasons. The first is the ergonomics of the weights. The weights at the gym may be designed differently, may possibly be smaller in size (and more dense) and therefore more comfortable or easy to lift. The other reason is psychological.
Yes, adjustable dumbbells are quite durable, as they`re made of iron and steel. Also, plastic is used to make some of their components, so if you drop them, they can break easily.
They are also often sold with a warranty, which also adds to the cost. Another reason Bowflex dumbbells are expensive is due to the brand reputation. Bowflex is a well-known and reputable brand in the fitness industry, and consumers are willing to pay a premium for the quality and convenience that the brand offers.
With over 30 strength exercises and a built-in rowing station for a calorie blasting workout, the PR1000 is a great way to begin your training routine. Folds for easy storage.
Lock N Load is a patented, inventively designed weight stack system that uses internal pins to engage and disengage weight selections. Externally, the user merely flips a switch on a universally color-coded weight stack from red to green, signifying that the pin is in place, and the machine is ready to use.
Bowflex dumbbells cannot be dropped. In fact, certain models like the SelectTech 552`s have warnings on them stating that they shouldn`t be dropped. Dropping them can crack the plastic parts or cause the adjustable dials to break. It`s also possible for some of the plates to break if the dumbbells are dropped.
Bowflex® SelectTech® Dumbbells provides the unique option of offset weight selection. Offset weight selection involves using a different weight setting on one side of the dumbbell relative to the other, assisting in supination and pronation of the wrist and forearm.
Wrap the weights in bubble wrap or newspaper to protect them during the move. Fill the box with blankets and towels to prevent the weights from moving around and banging up against each other. Pack a maximum of four small hand weights per box to prevent them from becoming too heavy.
The way these adjustable dumbbells work is simple – they come with a dock on which they`re placed. While they`re on the dock, you can twist the handle around and change the weight to your desired one – then, you simply lift them off the dock and start training.
The old Bowflex 552 dumbbells were discontinued and in their place stand this 552i version with some subtle changes to design and features, including a new hand grip that has a soft rubber coating.
Bottom Line. If you want affordable adjustable dumbbells, the Bowflex pair are a great option. Although they don`t get very heavy, they are a great option for beginners and those who do not need more than 52.5 lbs per hand.
The SelectTech 552 is designed to replace 15 pairs of weights, ranging from 5 pounds (2.3 kg) to 52.5 pounds (23.8 kg). The dumbbells can be adjusted by 2.5-pound (1.1-kg) increments up to 25 pounds (11.3 kg), and then by 5-pound (2.3-kg) increments up to 50 pounds (22.7 kg).
Quick Summary. Even though almost any heavy object can stimulate muscle building, dumbbells are the most widely used equipment because they were created specifically for this purpose. Adjustable dumbbells are the ideal type to utilize while trying to gain muscle mass.
First, dumbbells and kettlebells should never be dropped. Dumbbells bounce and can easily hurt people. This also counts for kettlebells, and these will easily be damaged when you drop them. Do not be surprised, if after being reminded of this and continuing to drop them, the coach swaps your weights for lighter ones.
Pushing a set of dumbbells together activates your muscles. This is another form of dynamic tension training. And since you`re pressing the dumbbells both inwards and upwards, you will still get a great workout and a high muscle activation even when using light weights.
If you`re serious about strength training, adjustable dumbbells not only have a cost advantage over fixed models, they`re also easy to adjust to the weight you want and can be conveniently stored out of the way.
Adjustable dumbbells are more expensive than traditional dumbbells because they use advanced technology and materials to enable the user to adjust the weight of the dumbbells quickly and easily. This added convenience and versatility comes with a higher price tag.
Resistance training like you can perform on Bowflex home gyms is a great way to build lean muscle and burn calories—key components of weight loss. However, losing weight depends on your diet, habits and genetics as much as it does your resistance training routine.
The Bowflex SelectTech 552 dumbbell trays are plastic, which can crack if you drop the weights into them with too much force, and the weights themselves can be scuffed and scratched.

Take the handle out, place on the floor side ways, depress the square button and turn to 5 lbs. Whatever weights that were on handle will fall out. Place the weights back into the holder. Make sure they are positioned correctly then put the handle back. Then test by dialing up different weight settings and lifting the ******** out of the holder. You should be back in business. ANSWER : Either the handle is broke or try making sure all the weights are facing right way (same way) or the handle will not sit all the way down. It needs to sit all the way down for the button on the bottom of the handle to be pushed to release the adjuster to be able to spin and grab weights.
