I have a Kohler Condidant 5 Generator that will run as long as you hold the start button in. It dies when you let off. I have a harness for the remote switch but no switch – It also will start the generator when you cross the red and black wire and run as long as you hold them together. There are 3 wires to the main switch and 5 to the remote switch. Does the starter stay engaged the whole time you hold the start switch or does the computer release the starter once it is running? The Generator is producing electricity because I tested it while holding the start button. Some where is a wire that shold tell it to keep running. I have read online many descriptions of the same problem, most are told the board is bad so they replace it and still have the problem. Have not found a solution. Talked to a marine machanic today and he said he fixed his friends generator doing the same thing by running a bypass wire but he couldnt remember exactly what he did it was a long time ago. Can anyone help me. Thank you
The problem is either the ballast resistor or the starter bypass relay. The bypass relay should be part of the starter solenoid. I’m afraid I can’t tell you exactly where the ballast resistor is located. It should be a physically fairly large resistor made of ceramic. It should be retangular roughly 1.5″-3″ long and 3/8″-1/2″ accross with a wire on each end. It could also be a coil of wire mounted on a phenolic board.

If you go to image 2 it shows it with out the fly. now if you got 2 sets of 4 poles, 2 long and 2 short, and one set is all aluminum, then I would go with the aluminum set. It is less likely to collapse in high winds.
Can a HDS 5 Lowrance Fish Finder be interchanged with a original Lowrance X135 Fish finder, and will power and Transducer plug right into the original supplied power cords. Is the HDS 5 or HDS 5X the same size as the original X135 by Lowrance. I am wanting to install the HDS version into to the original Bow mounted location as the X135 has already been. I s this possible without cutting a slightly larger compartment to accomodate the HDS 5 unit
Hi, well I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but those two are NOT interchangeable sorry. The “Drive Current & Voltage” for the Transducer are not the same at all, in fact i don’t even think that the “pin outs” are the same? but cannot remember off hand? Unless specifically indicated by the manufacturer, one cannot usually swap transducers among instruments, if one does/did do so, well indeed the transducer maybe damaged and or the output of the sounder maybe damaged as well?
These manufacturers actually make it so that none of their equipment is interchangeable, as they wish to maximize the profits you see, and if one could just swap things among models etc, then “They” would, in their mind anyway “loose out”
So you will simply have to cut a new hole and mount for you new transducer. make sure you mount it in the manufacturers recommended place, the Bow is fine, although I often recommend that it be central to the craft, but, sometimes this isn’t possible for varying reasons.
Sometimes if one must retro-fit a new transducer to an existing but different size etc site, then, it is best to “Fill” the old mounting hole(s) with a suitable material, and then re-drill and re-mount it all again.
