Bogging is caused when too much fuel is delivered from the carburetor to the motor. When this happens, less air gets pushed through, and the engine struggles to come to full power. It may feel like you are plowing water, or like the jet ski is failing to get enough speed to come up above water`s surface.
Possible causes could relate to electrical issues like problems with the spark plugs, fuses, battery, wires and connections. Also, the gas could be stale or contaminated, or the fuel line may be clogged. Finally, a faulty starter could also be why you can`t start your Sea-Doo.
Bad gas is the most common reason for a jet ski to bog down or shut off or even sputter while on the water. This problem tends to happen right at the start of a new riding season because many jet ski owners don`t do proper storage procedure.
There`s no question that the main reason why a jet ski may be bogging down is fuel delivery issues. Too much or too little fuel can cause various engine malfunctions, and “bogging down” is one of them. These issues are often generated by a fuel line or carburetor/fuel pump issues, or even a clogged air filter.
Some reasons can be the following: your jet ski has defective or worn our spark plugs, there is water inside the sparkplug well or in the ignition leads, the fuel level is too low or water contaminated, it has a defective ignition coil or clogged injectors. Luckily, these problems all have an easy fix.
Trouble accelerating can come from a few different engine issues. These include, but are not limited to, dirty fuel injectors, low fuel pressure, and restricted airflow. A problem with the mass airflow sensor, throttle position sensor, or engine speed sensor can also cause a car to have difficulty picking up speed.
A car not accelerating properly can be caused by a number of things. It could be due to the throttle body, gas tank, spark plugs, or the ECU. It could also be because you have a dirty air filter or a clogged fuel filter. The fuel pumps may also be failing.
This is because a poorly maintained and serviced engine and other parts wear out much sooner. Every owner`s manual strictly outlines required service intervals. Beyond regular service, jet skis need to be winterized in most cases. Additionally, every owner should carefully check their skis before and after rides!
A common issue with a 2-stroke is that if you don`t ride it quite often, the fuel can evaporate from the carburetor leaving the oil behind. When you next start the engine, too much oil may result in oiled spark plugs, which makes starting impossible.
Not having a sump pump check valve installed causes the water in the discharge pipe to empty back into the sump pump pit. This makes the water level in the sump pit rise and a high water level can cause the pump to run more often, increasing your energy costs.
With no check valve or if yours fails, the water in the drop pipe and system will flow back when the pump stops. This can cause the pump to rotate in the wrong direction as the water returns to the source.
Clogged Fuel Filter

Another common reason why your engine is bogging down when you apply throttle is a clogged fuel filter. The fuel filter`s primary purpose is to strain out any debris and dirt that may reach the engine, but the fuel filter itself can become blocked if there is enough debris.

This can happen when the pump itself is not working properly or when the fuel pressure regulator is not maintaining the proper fuel pressure in the fuel system causing the engine to starve for fuel.
Whether you`re looking to buy a new Jet Ski and wondering how long it`ll last or deciding if it`s worthwhile to purchase a used one, generally speaking a 2-stroke engine lasts around 200-300 hours, while a 4-stroke should last around 300-500 hours.
It is more than probably time to inspect or replace your wear ring if you notice any of the common symptoms: Your Jet Ski will not accelerate as quickly and tops out at a lower rate than before, even though your engine`s RPM operating range seems fine.
There are several causes for your car to lose power significantly while accelerating. The most typical causes of a car not accelerating while driving include a faulty sensor, contaminated fuel or air filters, or a faulty timing belt. Generally, this isn`t something you should ignore.
Slipping Transmission: If you step on the gas and the engine revs high but your car barely moves, your transmission might be slipping. A slipping transmission can produce an audible whining noise, and can feel as if the transmission suddenly changed gears at a time it shouldn`t have.
What causes limp mode? From faulty engine sensors, components or wiring, transmission issues, brake and clutch problems to a blown head gasket, or even low fluid levels, there are many reasons why your vehicle will enter limp mode.
The top speed of a jet ski can vary from 40 to 70 mph, depending on the model. The fastest a stock jet ski can go is 70 mph due to a gentleman`s agreement with the US coast guard. However, jet skis delivered outside the United States don`t always have this 70 mph limit and can often go slightly faster.
There are many possible causes for a delay in acceleration. A common cause is a problem with the spark plugs or ignition system. Other potential causes include a blockage in the fuel line, a faulty oxygen sensor, or a problem with the mass air flow sensor. Vacuum leakages can also cause a delay in acceleration.
How do you get a Sea-Doo out of Limp Mode? As the first step, try to shut off and restart the engine. If that doesn`t help, disconnect the battery terminals for 5 minutes, then reconnect them and start the engine. This easy trick can often eliminate a Limp Mode message stuck on the dashboard.
Jet skis can go pretty fast, usually 40 mph to 70 mph, depending on how calm the water is, the amount of wind resistance, and the weight of the passengers.

JD 212 starts right up, runs fine at an idle through mid throttle, but acts as if it is running under very heavy load if you try to speed it up to full throttle, and it will die if throttle is not reduced. There is plenty of fuel getting to the carb.
ANSWER : Hi, try it with the air filter removed and replace it if necessary. Also, does it completely die if you don’t reduce the throttle or does it die down and rev up again on its own ? Regards Phil.

I have a 1987 mercury 9.9 outboard drive problems
ANSWER : The inside of the prop has a rubber between the prop itself and the inside splines to act as a shock absorber,say if you were to hit a rock. that rubber had spun out and the splines are turning inside the prop. the prop is screwed. seen it 100 times before.

2005 Mercury 50hp 2-stroke outboard motor very sluggish when accelerating, stalled twice when trying to exceed 50% throttle capacity. Last time I used my boat was about two months ago, so I don’t think bad fuel is the problem. I let my boat idle at the boat launch for probably 5 mins before taking off. I didn’t notice any weird sounds or any indication that my motor was running any different than normal. After only a couple of minutes of running my boat up river I gave more throttle(probably 75% power) when it started to bog down. I immediatly kicked it out of gear and checked to see if something was caught around my prop but there was nothing there. From then on everytime I put the motor in gear and gave it throttle it would barely respond and stalled twice. Any suggestions to what this might be? Thanks, Newt.
ANSWER : The carberator is gravity fed and there is propbably gunk in it, when you give it more throttle, it needs more gas but can’t get it. Then a build up of gas in the float bowl occurs and nothing works right. It has happened to me and its aggravating, do a complete rebuild on the carb or just replace it and you will be happier quicker.

Put new piston in motor. it starts and ideals fine but from ideal to hafe throttle after letting clutch out it boggs down and dies but from hafe to full throttle runs fine
ANSWER : Did you make sure the piston rings and oil ring gaps were not all lined up? Did you make sure the correct gap was achieved on those rings?

Engine runs rough when we throttle up
ANSWER : Sounds like a spark plug issue. If the spark plug is not torqued after a good number of months it can seep at high rev sustained pressure. Otherwise I would look at the spark compensator or possibly the float.
